Help Us Name the Ranks
« on: December 01, 2009, 02:15:06 AM »

Original rank names can be quite the challenge to come up with, so please don't confuse this list with being original :P We could greatly use the creative side of the risk community to come up with some good, long lasting rank names.

Here's what we have:

1 ) Recruit
2 ) Private
3 ) Corporal
4 ) Captain
5 ) Lieutenant
6 ) Major
7 ) Colonel
8 ) 1st General
9 ) 2nd General
10 ) 3rd General
11 ) 4th General
12 ) Sailor
13 ) Commander
14 ) Captain
15 ) Fleet Master
16 ) Vice Admiral
17 ) Admiral

If you have some ideas for only a few ranks or all the ranks, please use the same format above. All input is appreciated.

Just an adjustment,

Tier 1: Enlisted
1) Recruit
2) Private
3) Lance Corporal
4) Corporal
5) Sergeant

Tier 2: Commissioned Officers
6) 2nd Lieutenant
7) 1st Lieutenant
8) Captain
9) Major
10) Brigadier

Tier 3: Military leaders
10) Colonel
11) Brigadier General
12) General
13) Field Marshall
14) Admiral

Maybe a smaller tier system - I split them into categories a bit, the first tier up to Sergeant being the Enlisted ranks.
2nd tier has the Commissioned ranks up to Colonel
Then 3rd tier is pretty much the high end of the military, reserved for General and then Admirals.
Maybe organise it so that you can only have like 3 Admirals at one time, 12 Field Marshalls, then it as it goes down the chain of command the number people holding the same rank increases!

Hope this helps!

I like some of the names :) But as for limiting ranks, the level system is purely personal growth. Accomplish x you become y level. Much like leveling in WoW or any other MMO for that matter. No way to restrict in this world. The ranking system is for competing, but there are no pretty titles or icons for rank.

Well Admiral is in some ways more senior than General.
I mean Admiral is pretty much just General of a navy, but there are much fewer of them so I suppose they pwn more ;)

Shouldn't it be 1 star 2 star 3 star general not 1st second and 3rd, and also doesn't the army go 3rd class 2nd class 1st class not the other way?

I dont think that the highest ranks should be naval ranks, because it does not make sense for a 4th general to suddenly turn into a sailor. Maybe we could have two separate ranking systems: One for kills with land units and one for kills with sea units. The army ranks could be used for the land kills, and navy ranks for the sea kills. Also, I really like the limiting idea. That way, you could have respect and recognition for your hard work.

Thanks for the input. The concept behind the leveling system was 1, doing land units first in order and then 2. Sea is like a threshold, noob risk players get good at taking land, but sea is more often the last thing for players to master. So the idea was, once you reach the sea, your building your way to the top of the elite class. So yes, starting at a much lower rank in a much higher class is the idea.

The icon order we are happy with, just looking for good names to go with them, please keep suggestion limited to names on the current icons.

Really appreciate the help ReignOfGlory, but we don't need to clutter this topic with info, please either provide links to ideas or finished results that you would like to see as the ranks.
