Risk Next Generation
Strategy Guide

By yun.

Fee free to discuss anything on the table of contents below, something that would look illogical or pointing out something missing. I'm up to listen any suggestion and to take into consideration every good ideas.

I also need help for the guide, as I'm more used to old version I didnt developped strategies to start in NA / Africa / South Asia / Aus. And I also never started in SA. I would need you people to provide me a little guide on how to start in these continents. If you think your strategy is viable, please contact me or post on this thread. Thanks in advance

A quick guide to the new unit changes/uses for the new guys.
So far, my trouble is fighting a player of skill that has more income, and is spamming nothing but tank bs and mortars. I have found a couple tank as, with tank bs, mortars, and a bit of roar are effective in the right spots, but if your outgunned your outgunned. Hell even SS SUCK against tank Bs. lmao. How to remedy the situation?

I wouldn't mind helping with the guide either.

Lt_Avata, how big is the income difference?
Anyway... If the income gap is huge, just flee and fight another time :P
From the way you put the scenario up, it did sound a lot like there were many tank B's, and then you can't use majors ofc. If the player you fight lacks skills to aim stuff or purely lacks time to aim stuff, the counter I would suggest is:
Privates with healers and a lot of tank B. Let the privates advance as they wish and keep the front supplied. Aim the enemy tank B with your tank B, if enough tank B aims a Tank B it can die in a matter of a few seconds. The bounty scored from the tanks can be used to keep the frontline supplied ;)

Not a quick guide, a final and complete version of the guide ;-)

If the player has more skills and more income, no matter what you do he will obliterate you.

But it's not the place to talk about strategies and counter (I created a thread for it =D) it's a thread to help me with the guide.

I need people that played a lot of games on the new version, tested different counters / attack types, started in several new lands and so on... If you are this man, please contact me.

EDIT: Btw who voted "no" and "jabba the hutt".

I voted Jabba the Hut xD you can take it as a yes.

I would claim that I already know the new units enough to make a guide, so I can help with that part for sure.

Depends on what the enemy sends and my mood. Tank A is great with taunt when fighting masses of majors/rifles and the tank B is great when the enemy uses expensive units, like majors, generals and other tanks.

I'm not using Tanks but I'm owning people that are.
What does it mean ?

Are tanks really useful ? If yes why do I never use them ? Maybe it is just that I never met someone skilled enough to make them useful ? Or other reasons ?

Should I use them ? Would I own people quicker with tanks ? If yes why ?

Skill vs Skill are tanks useful ?

If they are used as "tanks", is it really useful considering the shit tons of damages they take ? Or should the gold be spent in other way ? Can this other way be more useful than Tanks ?

EDIT: Really useful questions for the Army Composition and Unit Uses sections. Everyone can answer, I'm interested in any comments / feedbacks.

ive played far more than 10 games in the new version and i can tell a few things

if some noob retarded dude is suiciding oin you or it starts lagging too hard (common now) or battleground is too huge (like in china/middleeast) you can do a bunch of tank B's
normal army dont focus them and they keep doing a lot of damage. of course if focused they are easily killded, but you can avoid that with microing and all this shit. also if enemy made them focus them with mortars/other tankb's. 8 of them are nough to make each enemy tankB desappear.

if some punk started massing mortars/healers to counter the tanks i just open i gate in my army and do a double line of knights and your kd goes upghigh
if you see someone focusing your tanks in batle make them moving and near batle so hits are missed and they get busy too long

have one medic to roar every corner of your armies. it doesnt really count for me because i lag f**kin hard and cant even do roar but should work for normal people :)

besides that do a normal army composition, always use the counter of what your enemy has and have good blattle lines

if start losing, dont be stupid and let them fight. retreat all of them and find a spot a little on your back, redo your army line and build some more, always countering.

dunno if i found out only in the new version but some noobs teaming you is actually good, before i used to get really angry now im glad :D

after all: be friends with pirates now there are too many islands for them and they can be really annoying if you are rude to them or something

i guess its that

I need answers about tanks, and tanks only. That's the main issue in my Army Composition. I don't see the point of using tanks but I know some skilled people are using them. I gotta understand why before I write a guide about how to make your army.

Quote

So you train Tank B only because you are lagging ? It's not a valuable reason at all.

10 mortars are enough to take down any tank. Why should I waste gold for 8 B Tanks ?

Please, focus on the subject.

Strategies involved can't be based on the lagg issues anyone can encounter. To make a strategy guide we gotta consider your computer is 100% clean.

« Reply #12 on: February 23, 2011, 11:09:40 AM »

ok i just played a 3h games FULL of tanks.

40+ tanks "B" in a limited space can not be faced by anything, but by more roared tanks B & few mortals;
Army without tanks can not even hold pack of tanks from expanding, expect bottlenecks.

You still have to mix your army in "regular" fights over big territory, you need privates to "tank&die" and you need mortals as well. You may build a few tanks for 25 and micro their skill to make enemy units run after it and make them vulnurable to back rows of your units.[use shift] Like always roared tanks are two times better when not roared tanks.

Like with SS: The one who has more much tanks normally wins, no matter of his income. I just lost a game going down from 116 cities and 130 income, 'cos enemy had 4000 gold in tanks(was saving them all game, they did great all game).

Tanks are to expensive at first ~20 minutes of game. Single tank DPS/cost is lower than privat/major/general - no reason to get 3 tanks for all of your money: regular privates+healers+mortals do better at that budget level.

Lossing 1000+ gold in tanks due to getting "tanksB+mortals circle, roared" can often mean lossing a game in 1x1x1(x1) - close to lossing all your SS in a normal game.

It's quite impossible to land at SA bunkered with "B" tanks with anything(can watch my last game replay).

One great problem about tank army, is that you have to make it mobile. They just perma get stacked at "wrong" continents and at circles of power - the correct way of managing them is to always ship them.

I didn't play "classic" game yet, but it'll be very interesting game if one player got lots of tanks, and other got lots of SS: tank's mobility will go down and all that must be very exiting.

So, result:
In 3.0c you need tanks "B" if you fight with more than 300 budget. The richer are the opponents, the more % of tanks B you should have. If one player is much richer than other one - the poor one got no chances vs. tanks. Like with SS. But it's great anyone.

But if you're yun and you win any game in <20 minutes - you don't need tanks :D

Two things are great about Tank Bs imo. 1) They pack a lot of firepower in a small amount of space especially when grouped together and roared. 2) If they don't die, you still have them. However if you aren't using your tanks or they are getting stuck behind your mortars you can easily be wasting your money. Also, if someone is massing tanks in one part of the world, they probably spent a decent chunk of change and can be hit on their other fronts.
